What is GoHighLevel AI Employee?
GoHighLevel (also called HighLevel or GHL) is an all-in-one CRM and marketing platform used by agencies and local businesses. It holds your contacts, pipelines, calendars, funnels, email, text messages and phone calls in one place. The AI Employee is HighLevel's name for its group of AI agents that work inside that CRM.
The two agents most people use are Conversation AI, which replies to chats, texts, Facebook, Instagram and website messages, and Voice AI, which answers and makes phone calls. Because they live inside the CRM, they can book appointments on your calendar, tag contacts and start workflows without extra tools. That is the big difference from stand-alone tools like Vapi or Retell.
How much does GoHighLevel AI cost?
A GoHighLevel AI bill has three layers. Most surprise bills come from forgetting the third one.
1. The HighLevel plan
You need an agency plan to use HighLevel at all: Starter $97, Unlimited $297 or Founder $497 a month. Starter includes 3 sub-accounts (business locations); Unlimited and Founder include unlimited sub-accounts. Our calculator uses Starter, since one business only needs one sub-account. If you are a client of an agency, you pay the agency instead, and its price may be different.
2. The AI: AI Employee plan or pay-per-use
Each sub-account picks one way to pay for AI agents:

On pay-per-use, Conversation AI is billed by tokens at HighLevel's rates (for example GPT 6 Luna at $0.10 in and $0.50 out per million tokens, Claude Sonnet 5.5 at $2.20 and $11.00). Voice AI costs a Voice Engine fee of $0.045 per minute, plus a voice (text-to-speech) fee of $0.015 per minute for OpenAI or Cartesia voices, plus the LLM tokens. ElevenLabs voices cost more: $0.035 to $0.17 per minute. HighLevel also offers speech-to-speech models at one all-in rate, such as Gemini 3.8 Live at $0.10 per minute and GPT Realtime 2.1 at $0.20 per minute.
AI Employee Growth ($50 per sub-account per month) includes 1,000 Conversation AI responses and 100 Voice AI minutes. AI Employee Unlimited ($97) is unlimited, subject to HighLevel's fair use policy. When an allowance runs out, usage pauses unless you turn on Extra Usage, which is billed at pay-per-use rates. There is also a $20 Starter AI plan, but it only covers AI assistants (not Conversation AI or Voice AI) and is only for Founder plan agencies.
3. The phone system
Calls and texts run on HighLevel's Phone System (LC Phone), which matches Twilio's prices. A local US number is $1.15 a month. An inbound call costs about $0.01165 per minute in the US. HighLevel says these phone charges apply even on AI Employee Unlimited. Texts are $0.00747 per SMS segment in the US and Canada, plus carrier fees.

At 40 calls a day (2,640 minutes), pay-per-use would cost $328 a month: $0.060 per minute for the Voice Engine and voice, plus tokens and phone. AI Employee Growth would cost $371, because 100 included minutes run out fast. AI Employee Unlimited brings it to $226. For a busy phone line, Unlimited is usually the best deal, as long as your use counts as fair.

Model choice matters a lot on pay-per-use. 100 chats a day costs $163 with GPT 6.1 Sol but only $100 with GPT 6 Luna, because Luna's token price is twenty times lower. At 500 chats a day, Unlimited wins: $194 in total.
What hidden costs should you watch for?
- Phone minutes on "unlimited". AI Employee Unlimited covers the AI, not the phone line. Every call minute and every text still bills to your wallet.
- Premium voices. ElevenLabs V3 and V4 voices cost $0.17 per minute on pay-per-use, more than ten times the OpenAI voice rate.
- Long prompts and knowledge bases. Conversation AI bills input tokens for instructions, history and knowledge base text in every reply. HighLevel caps Voice AI prompts at 15K tokens.
- Allowances that pause. On Growth, the agent stops when the allowance runs out unless Extra Usage is on. Leads can go unanswered without anyone noticing.
- A2P registration. Texting from a US number needs A2P 10DLC registration: a one-time fee (about $22.50 for most small businesses) plus a monthly campaign fee.
